A new wave of coups in Mali, Guinea, and recently, Burkina Faso, all francophone countries, has reawakened West Africa’s infamous nickname – “Africa’s coup belt”.
The coup and its consequences complicates these situations and limits the country’s chances of forging ahead.
It would be seen that this latest coup in the Niger Republic was influenced more by a combination of palace politics and ethnic factors than the widely-mouthed reasons.
