#ChartOfTheDay: Media Reported Cases of Civilians and Security Personnel Killed in Nigeria

According to data from SBM Intelligence, between January 2020 and September 2021, 9,187 Nigerians (civilians and security personnel) have been killed.

According to data from SBM Intelligence, between January 2020 and September 2021, 9,187 Nigerians (civilians and security personnel) have been killed.

The reported cases include deaths resulting from Boko Haram attacks, bandits, militia herdsmen, abduction and gang clashes.

Data revealed that 3,457 civilians were killed in 2020, while the figure for security personnel killed was 678, bringing the total number of reported media cases of civilians and security personnel killed that year to 4,135.

In just 9 months, the reported cases of the number of civilians and security personnel killed in 2021 increased by 22.18% to 5,052. 

A breakdown of the number showed that 4,234 civilians have been killed between January and September this year, surpassing the total number of both civilians and security personnel who were killed the whole of last year.
