It is estimated that one in every four persons globally has been infected with TB. Though it is found in all countries, it is more predominant in low-income countries, with half of the world’s TB cases found in Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, and South Africa.
World tuberculosis day is usually celebrated on the 24th of March of every year, and its aim is to build public awareness and eliminate the disease. This year’s theme is ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’, which is aimed at increasing investment towards the eradication of tuberculosis.
A breakdown shows that the funding comprises national government budget and international donor funding. Analysis of the budget shows that total funding was estimated insufficient to carry out due diligence concerning TB effectively.
