The report released yesterday generated a lot of buzz online, with people questioning the new data released by the statistical agency, especially as the unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2020 was pegged at 33.3%.
On a per capita basis, Imo State has a GDP of N1.4 million, ranking as the fourth state in Nigeria with the highest GDP per capita, only below Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa-Ibom States.
Though the ports in Nigeria cannot be compared to those mentioned, the volume capacity, which ranges from 22,000 TEU in Apapa Port to 3 million TEU in Tincan Port, matches the ports mentioned. Thus, they have the capacity to employ a good number of workers.
A Dataphyte review of Nigeria’s unemployment data between Q3 2018 and the recent Q4 2020, has shown that about four in every ten persons in the South Eastern part of Nigeria are unemployed.
