#ChartoftheDay: In 2020, Complaints on Liberty of Persons was 91% Unlawful Arrests and Detention

The right of freedom/liberty of persons is a central human right related to the critical aspect of a person’s freedom. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) received 45,280 complaints relating to freedom/liberty of persons, and complaints about unlawful arrests and detention were the highest received in that category, with 41,040 making up 90.6% of the total received.

Complaints of violations to the National Human Rights Commission included sexual and gender-based violence, women and gender rights, child rights, right of the aged, judiciary rule of law and access to justice, freedom/liberty of persons, right to life, freedom of religion, law enforcement, and human dignity, quality of rights, labor rights, freedom from discrimination, Niger Delta and environments and others.
